Addressing the double burden of malnutrition necessitates a comprehensive approach. Our MCN Program collaborates closely with various partners to contribute to the reduction of all forms of malnutrition. The program employs diverse approaches to safeguard maternal and child health in the community. Additionally, it strengthens the school feeding program through nutrition-sensitive and specific interventions to effectively tackle malnutrition issues.
Our priority activities in the nutrition program include:
- Increasing community awareness about healthy nutrition through education on a balanced diet.
- Teaching communities how to make wise and nutritious food choices while shopping for cooking.
- Conducting participatory cooking demonstrations to educate caregivers on preparing a balanced diet within the community.
- Providing accurate information on food handling, hygiene, and sanitation to prevent foodborne illnesses and related diseases that can lead to malnutrition.
- Implementing homegrown solutions, including establishing kitchen gardens and planting fruit trees at homes and schools, to enhance access to various micronutrients and foster a culture of fruit and vegetable consumption within the Rwandan community.
- Conducting Training of Trainers (ToTs) on healthy nutrition for different groups such as schools, youth organizations, clubs, and associations, aiming to have a positive impact on their respective communities.
